School Garden
Westbrook Elementary is planning a school garden! Green-thumbs get ready!
Green-thumbs, get ready! We are excited to announce that we are in the planning stages of building a school garden at Westbrook Elementary in partnership with the Ready, Set, Grow School Garden Network!
To help secure the money needed to make this amazing opportunity possible — infrastructure, supplies, irrigation, outdoor classroom seating, docent materials, etc. — we need your help writing letters of support!
Teachers, parents, families, students — we need you all. The more voices, the stronger our case for receiving the vital funds to make this project possible.
Letters of support must be submitted via email to sa.mehlhorn@gmail.com by November 30.
Who can write a letter of support?
Principals
Teachers
Classified and support staff
PTC leadership / members
Parents / caregivers / family members
Students (drawings, short notes, “why our school needs a garden,” etc.)
What should my letter of support include?
Why your campus needs (or wants) a garden/outdoor learning space
How it would benefit students (hands-on science, nutrition, SEL, teamwork, behavior, engagement, etc.)
How the space will be used (class lessons, sensory/regulation breaks, special education and intervention support, family events)
Any current challenges (no shade seating, dead/overgrown beds, no safe workspace for kids, etc.)
